On behalf of the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) of the City of Trenton, I welcome you to our website.
I am pleased to announce that the City’s Better Hometown Program and designation have been certified, for the second year in a row, by the state of Georgia. That makes Trenton one of only about 75 cities in the state that have achieved that certification. The DDA oversees the program for the City and uses the program’s goals and objectives as the template for what we try to do. Trenton’s downtown main street is committed to both the rich, cultural heritage and the economic progress of the State of Georgia. The DDA is actively involved in making and keeping Historic Downtown Trenton a popular destination for North Georgia residents and visitors. Our vision for Trenton is to ensure its future as a vibrant center of commerce, development and community activity.
The DDA’s Better Hometown Program focuses all of its work through four categories, Promotion, Design, Economic Restructuring, and Organization. Some examples of the accomplishments in each category would be “Family Fest” and “Christmas in the Park” for the Promotion Committee, the new Creek Trail at Jenkins Park, our façade grant program, and our streetscape plans for the Design Committee, the training programs and low interest loan programs for business development through the Economic Restructuring Committee, and our fundraising through the Organization Committee.
Quality of life has always been an important part of Trenton and it remains a key priority of the mayor and City Commissioners. We make focusing on the positive an important part of our programs. The DDA joins with our other community partners in supporting that focus and keeping Trenton as “Your City for Family Living”.
One partner with whom we have grown closer is the Dade County Chamber of Commerce. We see this relationship as positive for both the City and County and see many future joint activities and programs for the benefit of the community. One program I would like to mention is Georgia’s “Entrepreneur Friendly Initiative”. The DDA and the Chamber are working toward having Dade County awarded a designation as an “Entrepreneur Friendly” community. This program is focused on small business and we will be talking more about it as the work progresses.
Another partner with whom we have grown much closer is the Trenton Arts Council. This group has become a vital source of volunteers and creativity for us. It is no exaggeration to say that they have been and will continue to be a driving force in the creation of the City’s Town Creek Trail that starts at Jenkins Park. We encourage your support of this great volunteer group.
We hope you will continue to support us in our goals to improve the quality of life and economics of our community. We need all your help. That help can be as a volunteer or financial supporter. It can also be as someone who just cares about positive improvement and the recognition of such.
We are glad you visited our website and hope you will stay and look around. If you have any questions or comments about our city, please feel free to call or e-mail us and we will respond promptly. We are always happy to answer any questions or respond to your comments. Please check our directory for telephone numbers and e-mail addresses. Remember—Trenton is Your City for Family Living!
As always, with warmest regards,
Rex Harrison
Chairman of the DDA
